Peeps watching this for the first time should actually start with rise of the lycans, even though it came out years after this. Rise of the Lycans ends where this begins, so yeah.
A like this movie :D
Vampires, lycanthrope. Its 'THE' movie before twilight.
Great movie

I havent seen this first film of the series. I think i started with the Rise of the Lycans.
I found it nice enough, i am into the whole fantasy etc.
So tip if you havent seen the series yet then you got 3 nice ones to see cuz in mine opinion the Underworld films are pretty good.

I Hear Ya neji. She's the MAIN Reason I have seen them ALL. I LOVE KATE(Selene) Beckinsale

A good film with both vampires and werewolves to keep you watching. There were some really nice twists to the story, the fighting scenes were cool, and Beckinsale looked pretty damn sexy in black leather.
in your face twilight!! Romeo and Juliet rip-off succeeds with werewolf's (lycan thropes) and obviously vampires, the colour blue looks good through out , wen you watch it again you remember certain bits that give you certain feelings were you feel as if you are there seeing these animals tear each other apart!!! gets boring in bits with talking ....the fx are good but some seemed ripped off from the matrix ,
"Differences will be set aside. Allegiances will be made. And soon, I will become the hunted."

Any film involving vampires and werewolves beating the living crap out of each other in an eternal war with Kate Beckinsale in can't be all bad right? WRONG. Any film that boasts Scott Speedman (who's previous work includes Duets, Dark Blue and Kitchen Party no less!) above the legend who is Bill Nighy can be quite literally that. ALL BAD. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

For centuries there has been a war going on around us in the world, a silent war, a war fought only in the shadows, a war between vampires and werewolves. But the werewolves (or Lycans are they are referred to in the film) are becoming more smart and more versatile all the time, but without their leader Lucian (who legend tells was killed by one the leaders of the vampires- Kraven- again centuries before) they are only a shadow of their former selves. Only one vampire warrior doesn't believe this legend -Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is convinced Lucian is still alive. The question is, is he?

Actually, the real question is, why would you make this film in the first place? Did they not realize that it would bake like a turkey on thanksgiving? An action packed thrill ride which tries to painfully incorporate some kind of plot into its massive scenes of action upon action with some more action thrown in, just in case there isn,t enough action. But for all it's worth and effort the action isn't really all that good anyway.

The plot, the little bit of it that there is, is not only stupid with more predictable twists and turns then the M25 during rush hour, (which, by the way won't make you surprised or care for the characters any more or less then you did before you found out) and a half cobbled together idea of what should happen, which is more or less just an excuse to have more action, it's not surprising that I didn't care for the story much. But, the story works enough to keep the suspense for the time that it runs, that's if they had kept it simple. For most of the film it's vampires Vs werewolves, then about thirty minuets before the end, that idea is thrown out the window and everyone just starts fighting everyone else, randomly and with little point or explanation.

The acting isn't up to much either with average (at best) performances from Bill Nighy and Kate Beckinsale (Who I am seriously starting to wonder ifshe can act at all) and even Scott Speedman, the other leading role, buckles and can't cut it. On the flip side of the coin both Michael Sheen (as Lucian) and Shane Brolly (as Kraven) do an outstanding job in what is otherwise luke-warm cast and film. The special effects and direction do the job to convey and capture the action but little else.

Put simply, Underworld bites.
A thoroughly enjoyable movie, Kate is as beautiful a vampire as it gets and her accent is too sexy. Four out of five stars.
a good vampire vs werewolves type movie with nice twists and turns. solid acting, good story, good setting, just an all around solid action/slight very slight romance film. just don't think too much about it and enjoy Beckinsale in sexy leather

Awesome loved it! I couldn't wait for the second one to come out!
Vampires, werewolves, Kate. 'nuff said
Absolution will be yours

Selene is a vampire known as a "death dealer" who is sent on missions to slay the vampire's hated rivals, the lycans (aka werewolves). These two species have been at war for centuries and the vampires believe that the lycans are almost extinct; however, Lucian, who is thought to be long dead by the vampires, has fostered a lycan uprising and is in the process of making a hybrid werewolf that will be invincible. Can Selene stop Lucian's plan?

"His own daughter, burned alive, because of me..."

Len Wiseman, director of Underworld: Evolution, Live Free or Die Hard, and the upcoming Motorcade (Tom Cruise), delivers Underworld. The storyline for this picture is intricate for a film of this genre. Wiseman did a fabulous job of creating a complete film with a detailed history, great character development, and fabulous action sequences. Wiseman was wise to utilize a 121 minute run time.

"He is not the one who has been tainted by an animal."

When this movie was initially released, I felt that it was cutting edge and on par with the Matrix. This film has fabulous characters and brilliantly combined the horror genre with the action genre. The acting was solid and Kate Beckinsale looked fabulous. This movie is a rare unique picture for this genre that delivers an epic storyline. I strongly recommend seeing this movie.

"I've tasted his flesh."

Grade: A-
Stupid movie, puts both werewolf and vampire movies to shame
Great film, stylish, slick and Kate Beckinsale is simply gorgeous as Selene. A most enjoyable watch with great action sequences Loved it :)
Great special effects, a good cast, and an interesting slick style makes this film recommended, but only if you can turn your brain off for a while.
To be honest, I think this has to be my favorite Vampire Vs. Werewolf story.
4/10. I was not interested in seeing any of the underworld movies, but I said to myself if there are two sequels the first one must be really great. The movies first act is awesome it introduces you to the story, has great action sequences and creates the characters, plus Kate Beckinsale just looks amazing, however on the second and third act the movie plummets into an uninteresting movie where the plot becomes to ridiculous to follow. I really cannot understand why this movie has two sequels. A mediocre action movie with a great beginning but a poor development.
I would have put fifty out of a hundred if it wasn't for a great performance by Bill Nighy. The action was ok in the fact as it was something to look at with some creative scenes. But otherwise the film felt rushed and it was like they were trying to rip off every vampire movie they could think of, for example the Vampire falling in love with a human has been way over done. Overall it was just an ok movie Bill Nighy was very good but he can't enhance blandness
A stylish movie, but that said Underworld really fails to provide much else and absolutely nothing in this movie is original. A highly predictable movie, but Kate Beckinsale is (and looks) fantastic in her leather suit and she teams up with the lycans (werewolves) to defeat the oppressive vampires, even though she herself is a vampire. She meets and falls in love with a strange hybrid of both species called Michael, who helps her on her quest. Appealing to look at but otherwise uninteresting, Underworld falls just shy of being Fresh.
