This is what The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea, should have been. The story is wonderful, we get a back story of Ariel's childhood and why her mother was out of the picture in the first movie and how the family dealt with their loss and eventually how the Daughters eventually rebel with the rules imposed on them.
The Villain Marina Del Ray is quite funny and engaging in the film and has a huge grudge against Sebastian and is in competition for his job which makes for a good to and fro between the two characters.
The music is also great, some songs we've heard outside of this movie, like shake shake shake senora, but it does have some nice original songs as well, but still not up to the Howard Ashman and Allan Menken standards of the first film.
Overall the characters are engaging and likeable, the music is great and the animation is also wonderful, I give the film 9/10
Rather ordinary Disney animated film, typical music, good animation, the same funny little underwater critters you have seen dozens of times before.
The Little Mermaid 2
Return to the Sea

So if you don't already know, but the Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie of all time and it is also part of my top 10. If Disney decideds to make sequels to one of my favorite animated movies then I don't care if I'm going to be twenty-two, I'm going to watch it! The Little Mermaid 2 basically continues the story of Ariel but follows up with her young daughter. The story was cute but I actually didn't really care that much for it. The way they ended the original was enough for me that I really don't see why they thought it was needed to create another follow up story, let alone that they focus it more on another character.I did like that they brought back original characters but they did create new sidekicks and villians which I couldn't get that into.

A movie that doesn't explain hoot, and a story that is hardly connected to the one that's supposed to follow after.

The point of ''Ariel's Beginning'' was to give us a clue why everything was like it is in the actual first film; though it doesn't.
It only explains where Ariels mother has gone to, and that's about it since the rest is totally not interesting or questioned.

In this story Triton is, again, a hot-headed old fart who loves to make a big deal out of everything, like we already saw enough in the first film.
Ariel is, of course, the only one with an opinion and who starts the fights with her father.
Next to this deja vu, all the characters hardly fit to the first movie's concept, since Flounder turned cooler than any other character in this movie (while he's known to be a total wimp in the first film) and apparently came in contact with music earlier than Ariel ever did.

This film includes an overdose of uninteresting characters that never made another appearance, Congo Club music, and stupid songs with a genre that Ariel never even used to sing in the first film.
Ursula was nowhere to be found. Just some Izma (Emperor's New Groove) rip-off.
This was hardly enjoyable in the sentence it didn't answer anything, even though it proclaims it does.

I would have liked to see my questions answered instead of just seeying another direct-to-video quicky that aims for fan's money.
90% of the songs doesn't have a melody or a catchy lyrics.

It's nice that Ariel's sisters finally got a personality, though.
There is only one, ONYLY ONE bright spot in this film, and that is its animation. Otherwise, I salute how disney wants to continue with such a terrible prequel. Everything from the first is diluted down to nothingness and waste. Even the second one far surpasses this.
Little Mermaid has betrayed us all! The beloved mermaid franchise has turned into something more childish and cliche. Wow I never knew you could so low Ariel. She's unbelievably defiant in this film, the animation is bad, the songs aren't original, and the story is terrible. This film will only please the squealing little 3-year-old girls who idolize the Disney princesses. I appreciate the princesses too, but this movie was BAD.
:fresh: Great movie! It works, although Flounder doesn't seem to have his original personality.
