A little bit slow in part's. But altogether a feel good movie.. 6/10
I liked this movie and find it quite good. The storyline is interesting and funny, and it has a lovely romantic element too :-) I enjoyed it!
The premise of the movie is absolutely awesome, however it's execution is bland and just falls off the rails. If anyone has studied the philosophy of "truth" you may find this movie more interesting than the average joe. 6.5/10
its not the kind of movie that will change the world, but worth quite a few laughs
I've only seen the trailer and know this Ricky Gevais vehicle is another complete stinker - Horrorwood at it's laziest...Ghost town was poor...this is impoverished!!!!
How stupid do these talentles, humourles, witless executives think we are? If my money was tied up in this junk I'd tell the morons who commission this stuff to seriously consider their futures!!! So I've taken the advice of my critics and seen the wretched thing and am happy to report that the trailer I reviewed was the best thing about it! A puerile effort from a once considerable comic.
Gervais is too good for the morons that watch his output and don't comprehend it.
The Invention of Lying wants to project a plot that is unique and original, yet is just the opposite of Liar Liar. In Jim Carey's film he is the only man who can tell the truth but in this movie the character mark is the only person who can lie. The first half hour of the film is the funniest. Tina Fey's cameo is one of the rare highlights of the film. After she exits it's an all downhill borefest. The same jokes are thrown out over and over getting old very quickly. I would only see the film if a mugger held a gun to my head and forced me to laugh through out the movie. I counted about 10 laughs, but they were little ones. This movie will probably be on netflix streaming at the end of this year. I've seen better comedies, pass on this one.
funny and original with good performance all around
Fun, goodhearted, genuinely clever. It's fun, with some really cool moments and cameos from every actor you can think of. The plot and message seems a little lost at times, though.
Saw this at the Toronto Festival. Hilarious and... hold on to your hats folks, Intelligent. Maybe the worst thing I could say about it is that it might be too smart for a wide audience of folks who think poo jokes are high comedy. The concept is unique. The first half hour I missed several jokes because of the laughter in the audience drowning out the sound track. It gets a little serious but it then builds to a very lovely ending. SEE IT. You won't be disappointed. Lastly, it will be interesting to see if the religious blowhards have issue with it. Probably inevitable in the US.
