Great cast, but very slow, uneventful story and about 45 min's too long...7/10
I like this movie
The only thing I thought was a copout was that "this is 40" had the same fight scene as this movie with the same chick basically a copy scene but different in a very small way! Kinda disappointed about the plot but it was overall great! I don't care about anything except it making me laugh and it succeeded!
Funny People is 2009's best comedy and Judd Apatow's best film to date.
Although it wasn't the comedy that everyone expected because Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen were stars in the same movie, it still was pretty funny. It showed the journey of a upcoming comedian, showing at first how Ira's stand-up wasn't good at all as he was starting. However, his rountine progressed after performing more and more. Ira's character probably relates to Sandler when he was first starting out, because he was booed at first off the stages of New York, until he progressed and started writing jokes and performing for Saturday Night Live. The movie doesn't go over the top working for a laugh, but it doesn't have many moments that make you cry from laughing either. This is what makes viewers disappointed especially when most of the characters are from movies that have more than enough comedic tear-jerking scenes(Knocked Up, The waterboy, Superbad).
Just got back from seeing an advance screening of Funny People. Great movie. I liked it a lot. Very funny, but a lot darker than I expected. But that's why I like Judd Apatow so much - he mixes great comedy with serious issues underneath. Great bit parts and a ton of fun cameos. I also like the way it ended. Not expected at all.
Just seeing the trailer and the advance screening of Funny People give you a great feeling of hope and fun from the film, also the cast and the greats producers and director Judd Apatow help for make this movie one of the most succesful films of comedy-drama of 2009
Judd Apatow does it again. This movie is a feel good film through and through but with his raunch and his every man quality. The movie is lengthy but isn't to bothersome because there are laughs and random cameo's from A to C list actors. I recommend it to anyone who likes this new breed of movie called the dramedy.
I saw this movie this past Monday and I can't wait to see it again. It was done with excellent direction and very funny noticeable improv. There were a ton of famous guest appearances and there wasn't a moment when I was not entertained.

This was the first free premier showing that I've been to so I'm not sure what protocol is, but the movie was quite long. IT was pushing 2:30 and I think that there could of been a couple scenes toward the end that could have been done without.

Fans of previous Judd Apatow movies will not be disappointed but more importantly I believe this appeals to a broader, more expansive audience which should garner a new base of fans.
