This was a truly remarkable story. Well done, well acted; very emotionally liberating film.
Antwone Fisher
I think this movie might be one of my favorite movies, that have seen in awhile. I loved this movie. Everything was great about this movie. The acting was outstanding, and realistic. Very dramatic. They even through a love story in there. I would recomend this movie to anyone out there. If your looking for a good one to rent, rent this movie.

Derek Luke is nothing short of phenomenal in this 4-hanky drama that marks Denzel Washington's directorial debut. Antwone Fisher is the moving true story of a young man who joins the Navy after enduring years of abuse at the hands of his foster mother and her family. However, his attempts to move on with his life are hindered by years of repressed anger that surfaces with explosive results at any perceived slight. Fisher is sent to see a Navy psychiatrist (Washington) who helps him face his past and reconnect with the family he never knew. Luke makes a convincing transition as the walls surrounding his troubled character crumble and he begins to heal his wounded soul. Antwone Fisher is a must-see, especially for those who use a troubled past as an excuse to never move forward. Fisher is living proof that, with heart and courage, one can rise above a bad childhood and become a productive, successful member of society.
Denzel Washington makes his directorial debut in a very sad film about a young military man, played by Derek Luke in his acting debut. Antwone has grown up with some hardships, and can't seem to quit fighting with everyone. After several fights break up, he's sentenced to visit a psychiatrist, played by Denzel. There we learn about his terrible mother and other family members where he suffered horrible molestation as a young adult. His poem, "who will cry for the little boy?" makes me cry every time I hear it; it's that beautiful. Of course, Denzel's hiding some secrets of his own at home.

I feel ya man...

Very touching movie. I connected to this movie in many ways. For one, I used to be an orphan without any real knowledge of my background. Fortunately, I didn't go through what he had to go through as a childhood because I've had loving and caring adopted parents. Still do. However, toward the end of movie when he met his real family for the first time is where it actually moved me to tears. Though, it is a flawed movie but Denzel Washington did a pretty good job and I couldn't have done it better myself.
The 25th Hour is another good movie from Spike Lee, but nothing too memorable.

Antwone Fisher superbly tells of the uphill climb Fisher took to be successful in life. Helped extremely by the performance of Derek Luke.

The Quiet American seamlessly combines both the politics of Vietnam and the love triangle of the main characters.

Daredevil sees a misuse of the cast in a one-dimensional film.
Saving Private Ryan ----- My favorite movie ever. Absolutely excellent in every shape and fashion, a must-see over and over again! :: :D 10/10

Black Hawk Down ----- So intense, especially the first time. Probably my second favorite war movie behind Saving Private Ryan. :: :fresh: 9/10

Signs ----- Absolutely crazy, no way, impossible, sounds dumb right? Wrong, great movie! :: :fresh: 9/10

Antwone Fisher ----- GREAT STORY + GREAT GREAT ACTING = :fresh: 8/10

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2005) ----- Jim Carrey was pretty funny but it still wasn't all that good of a movie... :: :rotten: 5/10
Watchable, but not enjoyable melodrama. It`s like weaker version of "Good Will Hunting" with black actors. Only thing to enjoy here is Derek Luke, who gives very fine performance. Rest of the cast is solid, but never on his level. Even Denzel Washington stays on the background this time. The pace of the film is amateurish and way too fast, there is nothing out of conventional in this film. Denzel was the wrong man to direct it. He is not Gibson, Clooney or Eastwood, who has established themselves as a great directors. Some parts get too syrupy and awkward and though I never seen the film before, I have seen this story though, and in better versions.
What starts off as essentially another Good Will Hunting ends up as a compelling and emotional search for the title characters family. Good performances all round.
Antwone Fisher is an amazing movie. Great directing job and debut of Denzel Washington. Good acting. The leads were convincing. Liked the honesty of the honest of the script and it is based on a true story. Wonderful film and must see if you like dramatic movies.
A friend of mine lent me this film on dvd.

"Inspired by a true story" is what it says on the front of the dvd . . . so inspired i wonder how much of this film is true then . . .

anyway not like that really matters, before i started watching it and i'd read the back of the dvd to see what the film was all about it never crossed my mind that it would be similar to Good Will Hunting (which i like very much) but in my few it has something missing . . . something that i cant really explain but something is missing from this film which is possibly why i didnt really like it that much.

Does anyone else have any fews on this film ?

My review totally isnt very good, as i cant explain it

Antwone Fischer is a man in the navy who can not seem to keep himself out of trouble. After one too many fights with his fellow seamen, Fischer is sentenced to three psychology sessions with Dr. Jerome Davenport. Dr. Davenport knows there are a lot of pent up emotions in Fischer that he needs to reveal to overcome his aggression. Fischer will unravel a vicious tale of neglect, abuse, and rape.

"I never had parents."
"That would make you a medical miracle, Seamen Fischer."

Denzel Washington, director of The Great Debaters, delivers Antwone Fischer in his directorial debut. The storyline for this picture is marvelous and tremendously dramatic. Derek Luke (Biker Boyz, Friday Night Lights, and Glory Road) delivered an amazing performance as the title character. The scenes were well depicted and Denzel did not over utilize himself.

"I understand you like to fight."
"It's the only way some people learn."

Antwone Fischer was loaned to me by one of my coworkers. I am not the biggest Denzel Washington fan, so I was informed that I needed to see this picture. Antwone Fischer is very well depicted and a fascinating tale of triumph. The fact that this was based on a true story is unbelievable. I strongly recommend viewing this film if you have never seen it.

"I'm not a virgin anymore."

Grade: A-
Denzel Washington's directorial debut and Derek Luke's debut is quite good. Actually it's Derek Luke truly shines here and even outdoes Denzel which is quite a feet.
A very moving film. Denzel's first time directing is a sure winner with a break through performance by Derek Luke.
