Wow, very good movie! Nice location and also scary...

...which started strong in the beginning but quickly went downhill from there leading to a predictable climax. Yawn....

The Messengers Review

Rating: 2.0/10
Rated: PG-13
Starring: Kristen Stewart, Penelope Ann Miller, Dylan McDermott, and John Corbett
Genre: Thriller/Horror
My Grade: D

Darn these wannabe PG-13 horror flicks... because they all suck major ass! "The Messengers" trailer actually gave me a bit of hope, and the Pang brothers are talented directors... in their foreign field of horror. "The Messengers has to be the most boring horror films I've ever seen, the build-up to the end is so tedious that you're just screaming at the screen for some action. The whole story is a complete rip-off of "Amityville Horror" and "An American Haunting"... why do all these films have the same exact twist? It's not a surprise any more... are all ghosts not evil, just trying to warn us of danger? Dear God... this film was excruciating to sit through, and then finally when I start seeing pitchforks and scraping against the walls (and I actually kind of get into it) I find out who the villain is and the twist and I completely get out of liking it.

Next Review: Catch and Release
Another pathetic attempt by Hollywood to milk the teenie-bopper demographic, this PG-13 "horror" film is nothing more than a series of situational scares accompanied by crescendo/decrescendo acoustics. Perhaps, one day, when the writers have talent and the studio has the wherewithal to return the horror genre to its inherent "R" rating, there will be a reason to drop $9.00+ at the theaters. Until then, don't waste your time and hard-earned money making these manipulative scumbags wealthier.
This film exhibited no creativity. You've already seen Messengers even before seeing it. Scary moments consisted of stuff popping out suddenly and loud music.
I only saw the last 45 mins of it and i'm glad I didn't see the first 45 mins. I had the killer picked out correct from the moment I saw them and was not scary.
Look, my best advice regarding The MESSengers is to instead rent the DVD of The Eye, which is an infinitely more creepy, terrifying and well-constructed horror movie from the Pangs than this schlock, which is all schlock and virtually no shock.

Perhaps the most horrifying thing about this film is the family who sat behind me and brought three little girls all under 6 to an adult horror movie! Those kids were too young for Monster House, much less this thing. This brain-dead behavior is far more terrifying than anything in this horrible movie.

Is there no imagination left that no one can make a horror or fantasy movie that doesn't contain 55-gallon drums of gore, torture or mind-numbing dialogue and plots? I think the very scary answer is: Yes, and even the Asians who had it have lost it

Stupefyingly stupid and boring.

I'd say it's closer to The Eye 2 than The Eye in terms of ambition and entertainment value here for the Pang Brothers, but I wouldn't completely rule The Messengers out. The first half of it is a very well executed haunted house film. The second half is where it all goes wrong. Props to Kristen Stewart for playing this pretty boring role fairly well.
