The music alone was creepy. Pretty good watch.
I remember seeing some ghost show in the nineties and hearing about this film and then I forgot about it. Thanks solar I'm seeing all the movies I could never track down or even knew existed. I watch a lot of horror films and generally I'm a little spooked out but that's it. I didn't think a film from the eighties could be so disturbing to me. Remember the eighties and all the gore candy that was put out? I mean gore is one thing but what this films puts the main character is pure torture. And believe me I've seen the Saw films and Hostel and those films had nothing on this little film from such a unknown director. This movie does it with man made special effects and a very creepy soundtrack. I am trying to watch all his films currently was very surprised with the Dark Night Of The Scare Crow. Gore is so played out sometimes it pure genius simply use sound and man made special effects cause pure fear on it unsuspecting audience.
It really is creepy for an 80's horror film. That music drives it home.
I wanna freak myself out; so let's watch this AGAIN!; based on a true account. Look it UP!
The Entity is a horror film based on the novel of the same name by Frank DeFelitta. It stars Barbara Hershey as a woman tormented by an invisible assailant. Despite being filmed and planned for a release in 1981, the movie was not released in worldwide theaters until September 1982 followed by the United States in February 1983 ... Nearly scared da pants off me back then ... Was an excellent movie of its time!!
Glad I finally got to watch this, I've heard good things about this movie but never gotten around to actually watching it.
@klnotarianni
I agree this is one of my all time favorite movies.
Really creepy. lol Cheers...
Terrific movie..I absolutely loved it. Keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time..
A woman is assulted by a set of spirits & looks for help from the outside world.

I like this movie. It's got real good acting. the camerawork is awesome. The story is great. It all clicks. It gives you goosebumps in the right places. This is how to do the "agressive spirit" movie folks.

The downside of it though is that the effects couldn't level itself with the acting. It could have been done better. And the ending feels like it was done to appease a production head or something.

All in all, a very good film that's a bit dated.
This is a very shocking story, more so because it's reportedly based on true events that took place in Los Angeles in the 1970s. The story lay out, acting, and special effects combine to make the film very scary and disturbing to watch. The effects hold up very well even in this age of CG effects.

The atmosphere of the film is well done. You never know when an attack is going to happen. The first few attacks are fairly telegraphed as far as a set up, but once they've started its amazing. Weather its night or broad day light, weather she's at home or driving her car, you never know when the "entity" is going to strike next and what he's going to do.

The "fight" between the clinical psychologist and the Para psychologists over weather or not this is an entity or something Carla has created in her own mind is also interesting.
