This movie, the gentleness of the story telling and the tender way the characters are portrayed in all their flawed yet hope-filled longings just makes me happy and I want to watch it all over again. Even though, the ending is revealed!!!
Not the best Will Ferrell movie, but worth watching unless you're opposed to romantic comedies that aren't so funny. About a 7 or so out of 10.
Cool, controlled, and totally sure of itself, 'Stranger than Fiction', is a playful examination of life and death. It beautifully culminates in the scene where the author meets Harold Crick face to face. Emma Thompson is simply stunning, Will Ferrel coolly settles into the role of a hopelessly mundane IRS agent whose life is suddenly turned upside down one morning. Magie Gyllenhal and Dustin Hoffman all calmly settle into their perfectly scripted characters. The film heavily rests on its premise, which may seem incredulous at first, but is given a grave touch of frolick that propells it to a thoroughly entertaining and entirely original two hours.
An off-beat comedy with unique characters that succeeds despite its illogical plot.

I couldn't stand this movie. I just found it completely uninteresting. I don't know why I just couldn't get into it. It wasn't as funny as I thought it would be, it was downright boring. Nothing was funny about it. Will Ferrell disappointed me wit this. I probably didn't like it because I went in the theater expecting something completely different than what it was. But I've rewatched it over and over trying to find something likeable about it, and now I'm through. I will never watch this movie again, and I still don't know why.
An amazingly well done movie that was completely different than what I expected, but wholly satisfying in a surprising way.
In most cases when I see Will Ferrel, I laugh endlessly, but in the case of Stranger than Fiction, I felt like Ferrel was going in a new direction. Will Ferrel does give a very strong performance as the acute tax dude. Maggie gives a good performance as well, along with Hoffman and notably Thompson herself. With amazing performances from your whole cast, and a well written screenplay where can you go wrong? The movie did have very small problems but they aren't really there if you don't notice them, I forgave them for the sake of a great movie. Great flick.
ferrell being serious? not bad
clever!... it was a brilliant screenplay, with a nice story! the acting performances were really good, is the first time I see ferrell doing something away from stupid comedies... this one has a clever use of humor and sarcasm.. i just love the whole idea!... and the tittle of the movie is more than perfect!
