Meh ++ to Alright --
Not a horrible movie but it never goes anywhere. Sure we see some development of Dillinger over time, but it is basically one shoot-out to another. Depp is fine and the supporting cast all deliver fine jobs, but what else is there?
Not a total time waster but not a total memorable flick. Maybe it is just a little too “Mann-ish” for a historical crime drama. He tends to do really well with made up stories of criminal activity, no events based on fact.
Not as good as you think it's going to be or as good as it should have been. Too bad. Why does Michael Mann keep getting work outside of television??
BEFORE I SAW THE MOVIE : This mid-Summer's action packed-thriller Public Enemies,brings acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann to direct Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard in the incredible and true story of legendary Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger (Depp), This charismatic bank robber whose within minutes robberies made him notorious and he quickly becomes the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover's FBI enforcement team, bringing with them, its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), who's speedy arrival and deadly aim make him a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public.
This movie is sure to be a thrilling, exciting, glamorous, and wild ride compacted with rich and full filling plot. With its amazing cast and rich textured story, and sure fire action, its sure to be one of the biggest and best of this summer's blockbusters. ENJOY!!

After watching this movie with high hopes to be my favorite movie of the summer I can honestly say that it is the biggest BUST of the summer, Michael Mans use of Digital film is poorly displayed, I am sorry that i saw this film, It had SO MUCH potential to rise to the top, and it fell O so Far:(
Crazy good movie. Depp is outstanding as expected. Well paced with a good amount of action but the characters are developed nicely. Plus the last line is just outstanding. It is destined to be an iconic line in cinema.
This movie was a drag! It was so boring. Well, there were a few interesting parts. You can wait until this comes on DVD. The cops were stupid. Johnny Depp's acting was great as usual, but I actually dozed off a couple times.
no storyline, no character developement, no thanks
Too slow & too long. Not enough emphasis on the depression or how the common man felt about Dillinger.
This movie has two of my favorite actors, Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. I am also a fan of other movies Michael Mann has done. So, this looks like an awesome movie going into it right? Answer is yes, no it's not a perfect movie that the academy will adore over and yes, it was hyped a little too much but this movie is still outstanding. The performances were awesome, I don't care about the people who say that Christian Bale is a bad actor, because he really isn't and in this movie it shows. There is never a question about acting when it comes to Johnny Depp, you know he is going to be good in every movie. As so many movies came out this year, and surprisingly quite a few of them were good, come awards time Public Enemies will be an afterthought, which is a shame because it's a movie worth being recognized. It might win some awards for cinematography and costume design because those elements were spot on. It is a shame but sometimes great movies do get lost in the greater movies that tower above them. Still, well done Public Enemies.
the movie has amazing story with incredible action and thrill
