Watched this with my brother yesterday. Pretty dumb, but parts of it are hilarious. Death Becomes Her is about two "friends", Madeline (Meryl Streep) and Helen (Goldie Hawn) who are fighting each other over the same man (Bruce Willis), and fighting off old age at the same time. This may not sound so strange, but the movie turns into a bizarre black comedy when Madeline meets an enchantress who gives her a potion that will make her live forever. Hmmm.

The highlight of the movie is definitely the fabulous comedic performance of Meryl Streep. She's probably best known for her dramatic roles, but in this movie (like in Adaptation) she proves herself to be a great comic actress as well. Madeline has most of the best lines of the movie, and Streep delivers them with perfect timing. Goldie Hawn is also quite funny as Helen, who at first seems the more normal of the two women but quickly reveals herself to be just a little bit unbalanced. Isabella Rossellini (Ingrid Bergman's daughter) also has a great small part as the crazy enchantress. The movie's weak link is Bruce Willis, who is miscast and goes over the top. Well, since the whole movie is over the top, that probably isn't the problem; he goes over the top badly, that's the problem.

There are some excellent Oscar-winning special effects, involving what happens when you try to kill someone immortal. That and the great acting by Streep and Hawn are the main reasons to watch this movie. Although it sags in the final twenty minutes, Death Becomes Her is a great black comedy with plenty of funny moments.

Almost 20 years later, and Cameron's master sequel still packs more punch than the offerings of most of today's action tentpoles. Ripley and Co. remain badass and will forever stay badass.

Death Becomes Her (1992)

.....
THE STORY IS FAIR, BELOW AVERAGE, BUT THE SPECIAL EFFECTS AND IMAGINATIVE SCENES MAKE UP FOR A LOT OF THE FILMS SHORTCOMINGS. STREEP ALSO HELPS THE MOVIE TO BE WATCHABLE. GOLDIE HAWN DOES FINE, PERHAPS HER VAST PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WITH THE FILM'S SUBJECT MATTER. FUNNY, BUT ALSO SURPRISINGLY DARK AT TIMES. A REAL MIXED BAG.
Death Becomes Her: 5/10

Death Becomes Her (1992)

A funny dark comedy. I remember loving this movie as a kid but it's not quite the same anymore. Still unsure of how this movie passed with a PG-13 rating. Looks like an R-rated movie to me.
